Changing color while keeping shadows/highlights?

hi,

 

i want try out different color paints , i've taken pictures of our rooms , want apply paint colors while maintaining shadows , highlights on wall. can guess couple of ways thought i'd see people suggest.

hi rusty,

 

there couple of ways, firstly you'd need mask or path out area want change colour.

 

then use 1 of 4 ways.

- use colour balance adjustment layer change colour.

- on new layer, paint walls desired colour , change blending mode "color".

- use hue/saturation adjustment layer , use sliders change colour or check "colorize" , change sliders desired colour.

- selective colour adjustment layer can change colour well.

 

please note depend on colour of wall start with, example if original wall colour deep colour you'd need use variety of tools pale colour example. few ways can change colour of walls.
