LR catalogue backup, storage and access

i moving lr 4 creative cloud. on desktop mac, lr catalogue named lightroom 3 catalog-2-2.lrcat. didn't realize lightroom folder has placeholders other catalogues lr4 not sure if in them , concerned if access them wont able current catalogue. know if can suggest whether should migrate current cataloguelightroom 3 catalog-2-2.lrcat folder named lightroom 4 catalog lrcat , if how?

 

once resolved, adding creative cloud license laptop , needing copy of data desktop lightroom external drive , accessing data laptop. appreciate suggestions how best accomplished. thank you

if have multiple catalog files , used multiple versions of lr on mac installed newer versions of lr took older catalog file, made copy of , converted copy 1 works newer versions of lr. happen again when install lr cc , open first time. end lr catalog file.

just make sure converts recent lr 4 catalog file.

 

you can't access older catalog files without having lr convert them format works newer version of lr. in fact bad idea try accessing them unless have older version of lr installed on system.

under file menu item there list of catalogs lr has open in past. under open recent.
