Slicing a Multi-Layer Logo

i new illustrator , newbie question here goes:

i created logo combining multiple .ai clipart (each multiple layers).

now need cut/slice logo created in half i'm having trouble figuring out.

which version of illustrator using?

 

does clipart consist of paths or there other object types (e.g. text objects or raster objects)?

 

are trying cut them or clipping mask sufficient?
