How to transfer elements 11 catalog to external hard drive?

my pc slow due large raw format photos store. have purchased 3 tb external hard drive store photos on. want continue run elements 11 on pc, move photos external hard drive free space , bring speed.

there 2 ways.

one highly recommended safety reasons: it's backup , restore process:

move elements organizer catalog | elements 6 or later

it requires creating backup on external drive , restore on destination (internal or external drive). can't safer because original data not altered, backup copy available , result can tested. of course, takes time...

when sure moved correctly, can delete original folder tree main computer explorer / finder.

the second option use option show folder structure on left panel , drag , drop master image folder other drive. time of 1 copy... risk move without backup first? said process relatively secure if there issue during copy (i had power failure in process, nothing lost). it's interesting if want move part of library.

 

however, not sure move external drive bring more speed.
