Pause timeline within a single slide

so i've been searching, far blogs , replies find how pause slide before moving next slide only. looking pause slide partway through. worse case have break slide multiple individual slides. user error?

 

for example:

an instructional slide has three-stage example. ideally, able show graphic of stage 1, pause timeline until user clicks continue button, timeline plays through stage 2 again pauses until button clicked, , on. @ end of sequence, next slide play normal.

 

i have used button pause after x value of time checked; however, timeline not pause. oddly, button freeze slide slide continues play. clicking paused button removes button screen, not intended action. experience button pause after option stops slide. work @ end of slide's timeline?

 

if so, other options there pause slide before reaching actual end of slide, continue after user action play rest of same slide?

 

i tried click box based on few blogs i've found, still end-of-slide context. have option keep series within 1 slide. reason slide afterthought boss after presentation has been completed. trying not affect slide order , count if @ possible.

you using captivate 9, right? suspect since talk 'pause after'. since want multiple user interactions, need multiple interactive objects. pause after pause slide number of seconds, execute next commands. don't know how did set advanced action, have helped if posted screenshot of action. not give control user, because define how long pause is. think image better explain possible work flow:

this slide has 4 stages , 3 continue buttons (action 'continue'), can aligned in same location. pausing point of buttons set end of timeline. first paus @ 3 seconds, second @ 6 seconds etc.
