Discontinue of service of Flash Player on internet browsers.

i course developer using captivate 9 develop , design several elearning courses company.  in meeting last week , told internet browsers discontinuing support of flash player.  important me know because have several video assets , animation simulations, captivate let me use flv or swf file not mp4 or other format.  if flash player not going continued in every browser have find other types of assets part of training material.

i realize answered question on year ago, there have been announcements in wired magazine , others resently found creditable flash player being blocked on google chrome , other internet browsers of flash player ads still work animation , videos embedded in captivate html 5 project?  therefore needed follow adobe find out if of true , lms people i'm working wrong.  need solution possible.  i've got several assets need developed , if not in animate need find else.

please me

your assessment of credible reporting sounds pretty accurate.  usual, reports of our death exaggerated.  encourage looking accurate information go find actual public statements individual browser vendors clarity on browser roadmaps.

in personal opinion, unfortunate number of tech blogs tend confuse they'd see happen what's happening in space, , it's common see published speculation (and regurgitation thereof) instead of actual researched stories.  there still bright spots people bringing journalistic integrity tech journalism, larger journalistic landscape, it's under-appreciated , sorely needed few doing quality reporting.

that said, there's obvious trajectory towards making flash content more difficult run in browser, , while ads , tiny content (tracking pixels, analytics, etc.) target today, behooves start migrating content towards html5.  despite huge effort harden flash, browser, it's primary job process untrusted, potentially malicious content, , inherently expands browser's attack surface.  constraining flash runs trusted authorized content way of click-to-play predictable strategy, makes attack surface impractical , uninteresting bad guys.

there's clear precedent in how browser community handled java plug-in, , while there's lot of great educational content built on java still in use in higher learning today (particularly in computer science , higher-level math arenas), it's painful , cumbersome run, requires changing security settings, , better experience native html content.

unless need features in flash aren't available in html , javascript (flash technology still superior things complex 3d games , commercial broadcast video), html optimal choice -- if you're building new content.

as far animate cc goes, it's great choice targeting either html5 canvas or flash.  animate cc offers same familiar workflows flash animators comfortable with, output directly html5.  if have simple flash-based animations and/or actionscript 3 content want reuse, converting them html canvas pretty easy.

create html5 canvas documents in animate cc

for video, adobe media encoder should provide easy mechanism converting existing .flv video h.264 video suitable html embedding.

in short, while flash player not going away tomorrow, it's difficult predict kind of certainty things decade now, when decision deprecate plug-ins lies individual browser vendors.  we're committed keeping existing flash content working extent possible, , while find unlikely browser vendors eliminate users' ability choose run flash player, it's easy see future there's more friction in experience.

standardizing content on html5 best bet long-term compatibility, , minimizing time spent on students' issues viewing course content.

hope helps!
