Help .psd got flattened

i working on 1 of larger projects (i put 6 hours today, small i'm not designer trade). finish project, signed off superiors, save .psd on desktop cataloged later. go mail finalized product , it's big on our internal mail servers open .psd (layers still there), flatten it, , save .pdf (i don't save .psd @ @ point). close ps , right in world. superior calls me 2 hours later , asks me tweek positioning on couple things , sure. open .psd , it's flattened! history empty , can't undo.

 

what happened? never resaved .psd! ! there way fix without 6 hours of work? either way there way stop happening again (over writing .psd when save .pdf)?

is document still open?  if still open try going to:

 

window >> history

 

then see if can delete action of "flattening" of layers.

 

if file close don't know how resurrect history.
