How to update an index?

hello,

cs 6, win 7 here,

i creating index references selecting words in document , pressing ctrl+7 (new cross reference).

i press add all, , locations of selected word found , page numbers reported next time create index.

 

now, document not done, , may add 1 or more of created references words through document.

however, cannot find way update index new instances of references. of course, when type word happens reference in index, special charater not created, there must way tell indesign re-add instances of words index...

 

i tried manual add again, once selected word, again, indesign doubles markers, , therefore have many double page numbers in index.

 

how update index?

as far know, there no native way automatically re-add new instance existing index.

 

the normal way, manually add while typing (not "add all"), understand it's not great. may forget add (many)...

indesign doubles markers, that's right... , surely isn't great, mean having double page numbers in index?

the index generates page number once, if entry indexed several times on page?

so, live it, though it's not academic.

more academic: use "add all" feature, use grep query in order delete doubles:

search (~i)(~i)

replace $1
