table not breaking across columns
i working on medical device user manual, 3-columns per page, , there many warnings , precautions set tables caution icon can appear left of warning/caution text in first row. subsequent rows different para format.
i need these tables extend bottom of column before breaking, not behavior i'm seeing. can help? i'm having same problem of other paragraph styles.
so this:
row1 col1 <cool caution icon> row1 col2 warning -> para format these both set orphans=1, no keep next/prev set
row2 - columns straddled , specific warning content may go on 10-15 lines since 3-column format. -> para format set orphans =2, no keep next/prev set.
the table has orphan rows = 2, not happening.
can think of other reason these not breaking properly? in advance!!
couple of points (i'm sure barb tell me when i'm wrong :-))...
- table rows not break across pages/columns. is, if content in cell long fit on current page, row appear on next page (or column, in case).
- now, in second page column (the middle column), have expected precaution row appear @ end of first column, , 'check infusion' appear @ top of second column because long fit in space @ end of first column.
that's not happening, , because *row format* precaution row set keep next row, or *row format* "check infusion" row set keep previous row.
you can kludge these fit removing keep next/prev row setting(s) on 2 rows (which moves precaution end of first column), , adding row below 'check infusion' , move of trailing text original row new row (that make 'look' it's breaking). - the numbered steps in middle column (step #4) doesn't appear in table -- '?' why second line has moved top of third column (i'm guessing) because table marker @ end of paragraph, moves top of third column table can begin (enough space there). 'fix' this, @ end of sentence ".. , remove the...", put carriage return table marker sits on own line , table sit in third column. note table 1 line down top of column... adjust height of line table marker on 2pt (the minimum) table moves far possible.
