Table cells will not line up horizontally where cells are merged

i have large table many merged vertical cells. when merging them, not line horizontally cells left or right of them. @ most, merging 2 vertical cells. i've tried in settings, , dragging cells not work. i'm beginnig think lining them not possible when merging.
