Lr Newbie-please help

will exporting catalog lightroom external hard drive remove them hard drive (mac)?  worried space , speed.  have been moving them still seeing them in lr folder/s.  need highlight catalog (after moving ext hd), click on command, option, shift, delete , choose delete disk in order physically take them off hd?  break chain or link images i've moved?

when export catalog creating new catalog subset of images. have option include negative files duplicate image files , send them catalog. cause problems.

 

i making assumption in fact wanting move images 1 hard drive another.

 

if case:

in lightrooms library module locate folders panel.

plug in external hard drive.

if drive not show in folders panel need let lightroom locate it. click + symbol right of word folders , select add folder...

navigate folder on external drive or create new folder on external drive , click choose.

 

select images want move external drive , drag them folder chose in external drive using folders panel.

if want move entire folder can click on , drag it.

you presented warning stating files moved on system. want.

 

essentially in folders panel happen in finder, whether deleting or moving.

 

using method have not created anew catalog - because don't need - , lightroom can still show images when unplug external drive. no link broken
