depends on number of particles talking , how generated. of course particle systems can slow, can using pre-existing footage, scaling, keying, retiming , recoloring it. comes down concrete settings , effects used. beyond it's merely matter of actualyl trying simulate , how effort takes.

ae self-optimizing , skip on hidden layers, layer 0% opacity , layers outside comp. how works of course still depends on teh actual structure of comp. peopel have wondered strangest things because thought 0.001% opacity same zero, not. being thorough, diligent , careful helps.

same first point - without concrete scenarios nobody can tell beyond whta listed in teh , articles/ tutorials linked there. complex exhaustively cover every possible combination. give specs , info on project , can help. otherwise end being endless , uselles dance around barn.
