Double Hit Black Setup
hello - printed last publication of black , white photographs using duotone of k + pantone cool grey. current project (also b/w photos), looking higher contrast effect deep blacks, , wanted know doubling black (in ps) instead of using grey. can guide me strategy this? grey, amazed @ how closely (calibrated) monitor matched wet proof. close. feel can't trust eyes k+k, black looks black on monitor either way. thank you!!!
you have proceed caution. paper determine total ink limit. if have image shadow density of, 85% , double print 85%, ink going around 170%, dot gain put close 200% risk of puddling. use same combination in previous setup of k + pantone cool gray , then, on press, switch cool gray ink black ink. order press proof of each scenario , make decision based on that. think double strike may much.
