InDesign CS5 style sheets not working on text after imported from Word

dear experts,

 

i’m working in adobe cs5 on documents created in more recent version of indesign. had them converted .idml documents open , re-save them.

 

after import text word created id doc, try apply style sheets created document don’t work. tried doing an alt-click override on imported word text (as in paragraph styles palette), didn’t solve issue. still have go through text manually , style way. other factors have not taken consideration?

did import word styles ?

did check no word-imported character styles applied (that explain things...) ?
