Easily updating tables of data from an external source
hi, i'm asking on behalf of coworker. has indesign document has many tables product information, including pricing. she's interested in changing pricing external source, because different customers different pricing. each row have unique identifier (product id) database guy believe should helpful. rows include images, i'm not sure if that's problem if solution use csv.
i'm savvy scripting , programming , such, shouldn't problem, if there's easier solution maintain ideal. she's not experienced in scripting , such, maintain if started her.
can point me in right direction?
thanks!
most simple catalogs can built data merge. indesign can accept comma-delimited or tab-delimited raw text. first row of entries in csv name of each data merge field, , if name data merge field ampersand @ beginning of name, column can include file paths images (on local drive certain; suspect handle \\servername\path can't remember , cannot test right now).
if it's more indesign's native data merge tool can handle, there third-party tools incatalog , indata allow more flexibility.
