Help With Tree Layer

so have illustration done drawing , convert more realistic looking.

 

the diagram uses bare tree, know can created clicking filter > render > tree problem trees created have many branches.

 

is there way control number of branches on tree, or eliminate some, without having go through tedious task of erasing of them?

that tree seems perfect task @ hand, , no can't change how many branches there via render > tree. why not scan tree in , trace in photoshop (or illustrator)? can add text in.
