Cannot import (or see) raw/dng files into Lightroom

suddenly yesterday, when plugged camera macbook air, no longer see nef files in import dialog. no error messages, don't show up. had no trouble importing , converting them adobe dng converter, couldn't see these converted files in lightroom import dialog. strange, since has been working no problems since bought new camera in august.

 

i have nikon d500, mac os sierra 10.12.1, , lightroom 6.7 adobe raw 9.7.

 

i had no trouble importing nef files in apple photos, suspect it's problem lightroom. i'm wondering if inadvertently ticked box or changed setting.

 

i taking raw+fine jpegs, don't think should issue, should it?

 

if has advice, appreciative. seems strange happened of sudden. thank you.

plugging camera computer requires use of camera battery downloading images.  camera battery charged?  suggest use card reader or card slot on computer import images , avoid plugging camera in.
