Photoshop texture pattern - black & white ?!

if add layer style > texture > pattern,

the pattern automatically converted black & white.

 

how prevent happening?

it shouldn't be.  realise how texture works under bevel & emboss, providing sort of bump map b&e work on? 

 

can paste screen shots of seeing, perhaps layer styles panel open?
